Service Organization Partnerships

Avondale encourages AmeriCorps alumni, Peace Corps alumni, and Veterans to apply for employment. Because national service alumni and Veterans have unique transferable skills and are dedicated and mission oriented, Avondale has included the opportunity for them to share how these skills can be applied in the Metro workplace. *Please note that preference will not be given to national service alumni in the hiring process. The inclusion to the application is to highlight the value that national service alumni can bring to the workplace.

Each year, 75,000 AmeriCorps members serve at more than 25,000 locations from coast to coast, strengthening education, providing disaster services, fostering economic opportunity, assisting veterans and military families, preserving the environment, and expanding health services. While they serve others, AmeriCorps members expand opportunity for themselves - gaining skills, experience, and education support to help jump-start their careers. Since 1994, more than 900,000 men and women have served in AmeriCorps, providing more than 1.2 billion hours and earning more than $2.7 billion in education scholarships to pay for college or pay back student loans.

Peace Corps
As the preeminent international service organization of the United States, the Peace Corps sends Americans abroad to tackle the most pressing needs of people around the world. Peace Corps volunteers work at the grassroots level with local governments, schools, communities, small businesses and entrepreneurs to develop sustainable solutions that address challenges in education, health, economic development, agriculture, environment and youth development. When they return home, volunteers bring their knowledge and experiences—and a global outlook—back to the United States that enriches the lives of those around them. President John F. Kennedy established the Peace Corps in 1961 to foster a better understanding among Americans and people of other countries. Since then, more than 215,000 Americans of all ages have served in 139 countries worldwide. Visit to learn more.
