Save Water in Your Landscape! Avondale Offers Low Water Use Gardening Classes
Sign up now! Avondale’s Water Resources Department is offering a series of free workshops aimed at promoting Xeriscape – or low-water use -- gardening.
Landscaping is unique in the arid southwest. It can be difficult to know when to plant, what to plant and how to care for your plants. Because 70% of your household water use is outdoors, we’re offering several free landscaping classes that can help to save both water and money. Participants will learn how often to water, prune and the basic maintenance of a water thrifty garden. Classes are open to the public at no cost.
Learn how to create a healthy, vibrant landscape without the water waste by attending a class hosted at Avondale City Hall (11465 W. Civic Center Drive) on Thursday evenings 6 to 8:30 p.m. , unless otherwise noted. Pre-registration is requested to reserve your seat. Register at

Wondering about how to deal with bugs in your yard or home? Are you confused about pest control? Learn to successfully identify the good bugs from the bad as well as eco-friendly ways to control or encourage them. If you like, bring samples for pest identification.

Avoid costly professional repairs and irrigation nightmares! If you already have an irrigation system and want to learn how it works, how to take care of it or make simple repairs, this program is for you.

Nighttime is a pleasant time to relax on a patio or in your yard. With the proper plant selection your garden can come alive in the moonlight with reflective foliage and blooms, interesting creatures attracted to them, and fragrance. Learn how to enrich your garden with magnificent night-bloomers that unfurl their hidden beauty as the sky darkens into night, and other plants that will “light” the way.
